What to expect from counselling with me
Taking the first step toward therapy can feel daunting. You might be wondering what happens during a session, or if this is the right choice for you. I want to reassure you that you are in a safe, welcoming, and non-judgmental space.
Whether you are looking for support in Worksop, Retford, or the surrounding Nottinghamshire areas, I am here to help you navigate life's challenges.

I am an accredited registrant of the Nathional Counselling and Psychotherapy Society
My Philosophy: You Are at the Centre of Our Work
I believe that every single person is unique. Because of this, your therapy should be unique too. I work pluralistically, which is a person-centred, holistic, and integrative approach.
The Restaurant Analogy
I like to use the analogy of eating at a new restaurant:
-
The Chef: As your counsellor, you can think of me as the chef. I know a lot about food and how to cook, but I do not know what you like yet.
-
The Menu: Instead of choosing for you, I offer you the menu. We co-create your therapy together.
-
The Recommendations: As I get to know you, I will recommend certain "dishes" (therapy tools) that might suit your tastes.
-
The Rationale: Sometimes, I will use my experience to suggest a specific exercise, or explain why we might want to skip another.
We will constantly check in to see what is helping you and what is not. You are always in control of your journey.
How I Can Help: Anxiety, Depression, and Life Changes
Life can bring unexpected hurdles. I provide professional one-to-one counselling and psychotherapy for adults and young adults (aged 18+).
Clients often seek my support for:
-
Anxiety Support: Finding calm and managing overwhelming thoughts.
-
Depression Care: Accessing affordable, compassionate support when things feel heavy.
-
Grief Support: Navigating the painful and complex waves of loss.
-
Stress Management: Learning practical tools to handle daily pressures.
-
Personal Growth: Boosting self-esteem and navigating big life transitions. This includes the menopause, divorce, an empty nest, retirement, or living with a long-term medical diagnosis.
Counselling vs. Psychotherapy: What Is the Difference?
I offer both services depending on what you need:
-
Counselling: This tends to be shorter-term, focused work on a specific current issue.
-
Psychotherapy: This often involves deeper, longer-term work. We may explore past experiences or childhood issues to understand how they affect you today.
By combining person-centred, psychodynamic, and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) approaches, we create a flexible treatment plan that fits your exact goals.
Flexible Options to Suit Your Life
Your emotional support should be easy to access. To make things as stress-free as possible, I offer a variety of appointment types at times that suit you:
-
Home Visits: Face-to-face, private sessions in the comfort of your own home across Worksop and Retford.
-
Online Counselling: Secure video sessions from anywhere in the UK.
-
Telephone Therapy: Convenient and effective support via a simple phone call.
What Happens in a Session?
-
Time: Each counselling session lasts for exactly 1 hour.
-
Focus: We spend this time exploring your wishes, fears, emotions, and choices.
-
Atmosphere: A safe, confidential, and completely objective environment.
-
Review: We regularly look at our progress together to refine how we work.
